GIARDINI PROJECT
The Giardini in Venice are the place of the international Architecture and Art Biennale. Situated in the very east of the historic city, the Giardini mark a recreational place outside of the Biennale season.
The new museum stands as a corner stone in correspondence to Palladio's Santa Maria della Salute on the other side of the canal, as a sign, welcoming visitors to the Giardini and to the city of Venice. The museum gives permanent place to the Biennale administration and provides exhibition space.
The building includes four exhibition spaces organized in a spiraling-sequence; a large cabinet (predominantly large format paintings), an installation room, a small cabinet (media projection) and a sculpture room. The administrative functions include an auditorium, class rooms and office spaces and the public functions include a Vaporetto terminal at the ground and a restaurant on top.
The main entrance of the building is oriented towards the Giradini. The spiraling circulation of the exhibition spaces produces the figuration of the volume. The administrative space including the auditorium and offices are oriented towards the Lagoon- A twisted or re-oriented figure ground plan.
